Product Description
I think we are all looking for those first glimmers of spring now. There are snowdrops peeking through and my advice would be to get out and see them at their best in open gardens this month.
Another, but totally different, sure sign of the change of season is that new fashion collections are appearing in the shops and we have a first look at trends for Spring/Summer 2012.
For our town features we have visited Grantham, Market Rasen and Alford.
As the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher, Grantham has received publicity recently because of the portrayal of the United Kingdom’s first female prime minister in the recent film, The Iron Lady. The question is being asked, whether the town should make more of this famous connection? You can read more on page 46.
Alford is a town which has drawn those working and interested in arts and crafts to it for many years. I went to meet Michel and Heather Ducos, founders of Alford Pottery who, this year, are celebrating forty years in business. As the original founders of the Alford Craft Market and the Alford Morris Men, their contribution to the town has been manifold and their enthusiasm is undiminished as they plan two exciting events as part of their year of celebration. You can find the feature on page 26.
Dom Franks has been to visit the Belleau Smokery, on the edge of the Wolds, to follow the rearing of the trout from egg to fry, to mature fish and finally smoking. It is the clear, spring fed waters that feed the runs which are the farm’s unique advantage. They are our Food Heroes for this month on page 102.
Fighting to preserve one aspect of county heritage are the Friends of Chain Bridge Forge in Spalding. Kate Chapman visited to meet Geoff Dodd, the last blacksmith to run the forge as a going concern and the community group who are working to preserve it for future generations. Read more on page 44.
Finally, let me remind you about our Cuisine Awards and the Select and Taste of Lincolnshire Awards which are being held on 2nd February in Lincoln. There is still time to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award and to book tickets.
Plenty for you to read and enjoy this month about our fabulous county.
