Product Description

Firstly, I must thank all those people who have written or emailed to tell us how much they enjoyed our April 50th anniversary issue. We have loved hearing your own accounts of the part Lincolnshire Life has played in your lives and we shall publish some of your stories on the letters page next month.
We thought it would be hard to beat last month’s issue but I am not sure where to begin to tell you what we have for you in this issue – there is just so much!
I began by visiting a community bakery in Bourne. The Barefoot Bakery is a new venture which aims to spread the word about real bread. Using flour milled at Boston’s Maud Foster Mill, the bakery is looking for volunteers and subscribers. You can read more on page 164.
This lovely weather has put us in summer mood and we have visited Stamford, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge, as well as Skegness and the Coast on our travels. This also sewed the seed of an idea to look at options for holidaying closer to home. Have a look at our Lincolnshire Staycations feature on page 126 which could not only save you money on petrol or flight fuel surcharges but offer a more relaxing alternative.
I met Lincoln actor and director, Colin McFarlane, to hear about a new initiative he has launched to help school students discover their past. This ‘Who do you think you are?’ themed project could culminate in local students being teamed with celebrity mentors for their stories to be filmed and broadcast for a pilot TV show. The full story is on page 16.
May is such a busy month for the county calendar. We hope you enjoy choosing which of the events you will attend from the Lincoln Book Festival programme which we have polywrapped with this issue. There are features on this year’s Wolds’ Walking Festival as well as a new arts and culture festival, the Lincolnshire Showcase, which will be staging events across the county, from this month until October, as part of the Olympic 2012 cultural legacy.
We have not forgotten those of you who love history and we hope you enjoy our feature on the Romans in Lincolnshire and something from the more recent past, the story of the founding of the Jerry Green Dog Rescue charity.
Finally, don’t forget to enter the great competitions in this issue. Win a weekend break at De Vere Belton Woods, tickets for BBC Gardener’s World Show or for Belton Spitfire Proms.
