Happy Lincolnshire Day everyone and welcome to this month’s issue. We have another jam-packed magazine for you but first let me mention about Lincolnshire having just been voted Britain’s Favourite Food Spot. It is something that we who live here already enjoy and celebrate, but what great news that the rest of the country thinks that too.
We have plenty for foodies as usual. I enjoyed a trip to the Blue Bell Inn at Belchford for our dining out review this month and our food hero is Karl Sergison, who runs his restaurant and cookery academy in Spalding. More delicious recipes for dinner parties and a cake to celebrate this month’s National Baking Week should keep your mind occupied and your kitchen busy.
Our front cover image is Sutton Bridge Lighthouse and Kate Chapman has been to meet its new owners, Doug and Sue Hilton. They are rising to the challenge of preserving and developing the legacy of Sir Peter Scott and ensuring a future for a building which is regarded as ‘the most important in global conservation history’. That is quite a responsibility so read of their plans on page 88.
We have also interviewed two Lincoln based performers this month. English Touring Opera are returning to the city to present the Lincoln Festival of Baroque Opera. One of their lead tenors, Mark Wilde, has recently settled here with his family and we talk about what attracted him to relocate and about the roles he will perform.
Craig Garner is a young actor and performer who is currently staring in the Channel 4 documentary, Seven Dwarves. Craig has a very rare syndrome which has limited his height to four feet one (and a bit – as he told me). Read about his ambitions and achievements so far on page 18.
Finally, I must mention that it is WoldsWords Festival time of year again. They have a fantastic programme this year and we give you a flavour on page 52.
However you celebrate Lincolnshire Day, I hope you include the opportunity to eat, drink and be merry on some of our fine county produce.
